COVID related issues
Officials should come to the game site wearing a mask.
For all non-game related interactions with staff, etc., wear a mask.
If the teams are wearing masks, the referee should unless there is a health issue.
If a team starts with masks but then pull them down, let it go. We are not the mask police.

Assistant Referees should always wear a mask.

CIF Guidelines via NCS
  • The recommendation for face coverings is for participants (players).  The CDPH has stated that all others (officials, coaches, game personnel, players (on the bench), spectators, game management staff (clock operators, etc.) should wear a mask unless dangerous.  If an official deems wearing a mask is dangerous for their health, then that is their choice.  They should wear a mask prior to the game, at the pre-game meeting and anytime they are in close proximity to another player/coach during a game.
  • The ARs should always wear a mask as they are likely to be in close contact with Team Officials..  Officials can use a whistle through their mask, or move their mask, or use an electronic whistle as necessary if they are wearing a mask.
  •  We will update the document regarding ball sanitization.  The ball should be sanitized prior to the game and at halftime.  If the ball comes in contact with potential contaminants (blood, saliva, heavy sweating) then the ball should be replaced and sanitized.  This should not be the case for most balls kicked out of bounds and handled for a throw-in, or catch by a goalie.  If a ball completely leaves the playing field (i.e kicked over a fence, out of the stadium, etc.) it should be quickly sanitized before usage again.  I.e  ball kicked out of play into a backyard.  Ball from one of the goals is put into play.  Balls kicked out of play is retrieved, sanitized and placed at the goal for the next situation.
